Sail U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI)

The US Virgin Islands (USVI) are comprised of 4 large islands: St.Croix, St. Thomas, St. John and Water Island. The islands are located approximately 1800 kilometers from Miami, Florida. The islands had previously been possessions of several European countries with the USA purchasing them in 1917. Tourism is the primary industry that drives the economic engine of USVI with visitors from around the world coming to experience the Caribbean culture, white sand beaches and coral reefs abundant with marine life and the mangrove forests of the wetlands. Iguanas, mongoose, deer, crabs, lizards and frogs are included in the wildlife that is found on land with the skies of the USVI presenting pelicans, herons, bats and the brightly yellowed festooned banaquit bird. Land based activities include visiting casinos, world class resorts and spas, hiking eco-tours, horseback riding and miles of sandy beaches with swaying coconut trees. The waters of the USVI are considered among the best for diving and snorkeling, fishing, windsurfing, kayaking and jet ski riding. The probability of dropping anchor in secluded coves in calm waters attracts yachtsmen from all over the world to the USVI. The marina at French Town, the marina at Compass Point and American Yacht Harbor, all on St. Thomas, offer bareboat and crewed charters with craft ranging from monohulls that can accommodate 6 cruisers to larger catamarans with the capability for supporting 12 or more on extended cruising adventures. The weather in the USVI is consistent year round although the period between July and early October is considered hurricane season which must be considered when planning your sailing excursion. Cruising around the US Virgin Islands in your bareboat charter could very well be the dream you are missing from your list. Add a trip to explore this Caribbean paradise from your chartered sailboat today and start imagining just how perfect the experience will be.
