Sail Hawaiian Islands

The Hawaiian Islands is an archipelago of 8 volcanic islands and some smaller islets and atolls in the Pacific Ocean. The islands chain stretches for more than 1500 miles at the extreme boundary and is the 50th State of the USA. Originally dubbed “The Sandwich Islands” by Captain James Cook in the 18th century the Islands now take their name from the largest land mass among the grouping, The Island of Hawaii. The island of Oahu, including the State’s capital city of Honolulu, is by far the most populous. Famous surfing beaches on Oahu’s north shore, such as Pipeline, Waimea Bay and Sunset Beach are legendary in the board rider world. Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head crater and Haunama Bay are but a few of the primary landmarks on Oahu attracting tourists from the world over. The islands of Maui, Kauai, the Big Island of Hawaii, Lanai and to a lesser extent, Molokai are also the targets of dream fulfilling holidays geared toward soaking up the sun, visiting historical sites, participating in the local cultural activities and every sort of ocean oriented activity including snorkeling, diving, fishing, windsurfing, kayaking, outrigger canoe riding, parasailing, whale and dolphin watching and, of course, sailing. Inland activities include hiking, biking, river rafting and traversing canyons on zip lines. The islands offer world class resorts, restaurants offering experiences for fine dining and specialty cuisine, famous golf courses and monuments and museums related to the ancient culture of the local people along with the significant role Hawaii has played in defense of the United States. Sailing in Hawaii can be as simple as covering Waikiki Beach, offshore, to include snorkeling at nearby reefs while admiring the city skyline that seems close enough to touch. At the same time, the tricky winds that are often influenced by the island’s complex landscape of mountains, hills and valleys can make sailing near or between the islands challenging to even the most seasoned sailor. Some of the passages are known for seas that can be quite rough and bareboat charters, as a result, can be challenging to arrange. The Honolulu Sailing Company on Oahu’s north shore will accommodate bareboat sailing charters but requires an in depth examination of the skipper’s skills before agreeing to the arrangement. Competent skippers, crews and cooks can also be provided by a number of charter companies for those who have dreamed of the experience of sailing around the Hawaiian Islands but would like to leave the responsibility to local experts. Day sails are also very popular with embarkation at marinas on a number of the islands. Whether bareboat or crewed, your sailing adventure in Hawaii will include miles and miles of uninhabited coastline, secluded beaches, impressive wilderness areas as well as access to anchorage and marinas that allow for land based excursions and activities in some of the more famous tourist destinations on Maui and Oahu. Your dream of sailing in Hawaii is waiting for you. Begin the process of fulfilling that dream by adding it to your list and start investigating the details.
