View Original Description
The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) is a sports stadium in Sydney, Australia. It is used for Test cricket, One Day International cricket, Twenty20 cricket and Australian rules football, as well some rugby league football and rugby union matches. Steeped in sporting history, the Sydney Cricket Ground has existed for more than 160 years.
It is one of only three grounds worldwide to have hosted 100 cricket Tests. Almost every famous Australian cricketer, league and rugby footballer has competed within its precincts, as have numerous other sporting stars. The SCG itself is historic, with the Members Pavilion (1886) and Ladies Pavilion (1896) among the nation’s architectural treasures.
It is the home ground for the New South Wales Blues cricket team and the Sydney Swans of the Australian Football League. It is owned and operated by the SCG Trust that also manages the Sydney Football Stadium located next door. Until the 40,000 seat Football Stadium was opened in 1988, the Sydney Cricket ground was the major rugby league venue in Sydney.
