Giraffe in the Wild
View Original Description
Giraffe's are the tallest mammal on earth and are always a hit on African safaris with their long necks, blue tongues, little knobs on their heads. The giraffe has an extremely elongated neck, which can be up to 2 m (6 ft 7 in) in length. The giraffe neck contains special veins and blood valves to stop the giraffe from blacking out when it takes a drink.
The giraffe's scattered range extends from Chad in the north to South Africa in the south, and from Niger in the west to Somalia in the east. Giraffes usually inhabit savannas, grasslands, and open woodlands.
