See a
Osprey
View Original Description
So you think you’re a good at fishing? Let’s put you up against an osprey and see who wins! Also called fish eagle, sea hawk, river hawk, and fish hawk, the osprey can catch fish on at least one in every four dives, with success rates sometimes as high as 70 percent. They are such specialized fishers that they even have their own taxonomic genus and family.
Fish make up almost all of the osprey’s diet. When hunting, they often hover over the water, then dive feet-first to grab their intended prey. Surprisingly, for being such good fishers, they are unable to dive more than about three feet below the surface. The osprey’s coloring is brown above and white below; they are whiter than almost any other raptor. When you’re near bodies of water, keep your eyes peeled for the giant stick nests they are known for building on top of telephone poles and dead trees. You might just get to see this amazing fisher in action!
