Al Jassasiya Rock Carvings, Qatar
View Original Description
Al Jassasiya is one of the most impressive of the dozen rock-carving sites in Qatar. The site was first discovered in 1957 and then thoroughly studied in 1974. Archaeologists have found a total of some 900 rock carvings, or "petroglyphs," at Al Jassasiya. They are mostly enigmatic cup marks arranged in various patterns, including rows and rosettes, but also eye-catching representations of sailing ships.
