Bárðarlaug is an oval-shaped cold pond in a ravine west of the road to Hellnar.
The story goes that Bárðarlaug is the bathing place of Bárður Snæfellsás. He will have settled on Snæfellsnes and been from a giant family. Bárður called the glacier Snjófell and Snæfellsnesið Snjófallaströnd. He got into an altercation with his relatives and neighbors and disappeared, but it is believed that he walked into the glacier. From then on people started calling him and he was given the name Snæfellsás.
The pool was protected as a natural phenomenon in 1980.
