Bornholm is known for its four round churches built in the 12th and 13th centuries The other round churches on Bornholm are Nyker, Nylars and Olsker. They are all architecturally impressive buildings with a number of common features. Nordic round churches are a type of round church found in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Nordic round churches were designed with defence in mind. Aside from their religious role, they also served as power symbols, storehouses and a safe place for community members to place their valuables during regional conflicts.
