Flores has several inactive volcanoes and in many situations where water collected in volcanic calderas (or caldeiras in Portuguese), lakes formed: there are seven of these lakes on the island, including Caldeira Negra, Caldeira Comprida, Caldeira Seca and Caldeira Branca.
It's part of the UNESCO Azores Geopark.
