See Cape Forchu Lighthouse, Nova Scotia, Canada

The Cape Forchu lighthouse, on a headland at the south western tip of Nova Scotia, is the light for the town of Yarmouth and its harbour. The structure rests 37.5 meters (125 ft.) above sea level. The Cape Forchu Light Station was the first light station in Canada to be passed over to a municipality by federal government divestiturehe under the "96-1" arrangements. The lighthouse was constructed in 1839 and was operational in 1840. The original station was demolished in 1961 and replaced in 1962 with the "apple core" - a concrete tower. Since 2000, the original fresnel lens used at the lighthouse is located at the Yarmouth County Museum. The lighthouse, land, and all the buildings were deeded to the Municipality of Yarmouth County by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in March, 2001. The Friends of the Yarmouth Light Society operate a museum in the lighthouse keeper’s house with exhibits about the lighthouse and local history. The surrounding 19 acres of rocky headland are protected as a park.
