See Chinese Memorial, Robe, South Australia

The upper part of the plaque reads: "Chinese Memorial. During the years 1856-1858 16500 Chinese landed near this spot and walked 200 miles to the Victorian Goldfields in search of gold." What isn't mentioned is that the reason the Chinese landed in South Australia was to avoid the poll tax of ten pounds which was imposed only on the Chinese by the Victorian Government.
