Coronado Sand Dunes, California
View Original Description
Most people walk by the sand dunes on Coronado Beach and have no idea they spell out Coronado Beach.
Back in the 1980s, a city maintenance worker needed to clean up all the seaweed left opver from a big storm. Using heavy equipment he started piling sand over the seaweed, creating the dunes. Being the creative sort that he was he decided to speel out "Coronado" with the dunes.
The sand dunes on Coronado Beach in Coronado, California are just north of the Hotel Del. The dunes are quite high, topped with ice plant, and form a maze-like barrier to the wide, sandy beach.
It's a little hard to see from ground level but as you are flying over is jumps out.
