Cushy Glen Sculpture, Binevenagh, Northern Ireland
View Original Description
Cushy Glen (also known as Paddy Cushaglen) stalked, robbed and disposed of the remains of unsuspecting travellers as they made their way along a very quiet and deserted road between Coleraine and Limavady towards the end of the 1700’s or early 1800’s.
The Cushy Glen statue was erected in 2013 at The Largantea Picnic Area on The Windy Hill Road between Coleraine and Limavady. Sculpture by Maurice Harron.
Formerly known as the Murderhole Road due to its gruesome history, along the Windyhill Road can be found Cushy’s glen, where Cushy would lie in wait for his victims and attack them from behind with a knife. He was often helped in his deeds by his wife, Kitty. Cushy met his end one night when he was shot dead while attempting to rob Harry Hopkins, a cloth merchant from Bolea.
