Drunk Green Vervet Monkeys, St. Kitts
View Original Description
On the island of St. Kitts there are gangs of green vervet monkeys that regularly raid the local beach bars for cocktails to satisfy their thirst. The monkeys arrived in St. Kitts with Africans brought as slaves to work the sugar cane fields when the French occupied the island sporadically in the time frames of 1665 to 1690.The monkeys got a taste for the boose eating fermented fruits on forest floors and fermented cane that was left in the fields after harvest.
Like drunks everywhere, they exhibit poor manners, swiping rumrunners and running or pilfering piña coladas poolside.
