Guided Hike to See
Elephant Seals at Cardwell Point, San Miguel Island, California
View Original Description
The beach is quite crowded now at Cardwell Point on San Miguel Island. TDuring April, May and early June, female elephant seals pack the beaches on San Miguel Island. While they are ashore their old skin and fur will fall off, and they'll be left with a new coat to last them the next year. After this molting process, they swim off for the Northern Pacific where they will feed until they return to have pups and breed in the winter.
