See Engraved Rocks of Pointe-Marie-Galante, Saint-Joseph Island, French Guiana
The engraved rocks of Pointe-Marie-Galante are part of a historic monument in French Guiana located in the town of Cayenne (on Île Saint-Joseph). Group of two sets comprising both engravings prior to the first millennium of our era, and engravings from the convict and current eras.The old engravings have stylistic characteristics that are similar to those of the petroglyphs known in the Lesser and Greater Antilles.These two groups of engraved rocks testify to the maritime movements of ancient Amerindian populations.The only figure identified represents a stylized animal, probably a lizard.
The site is listed as a historic monument by order of the March 8 , 2002.
