Gibson Steps, Australia
View Original Description
The Gibson Steps is an area of cliffs on the south coast of Australia along the Great Ocean Road, located about 2 minutes drive from The Twelve Apostles. The cliffs are the first sightseeing stopoff in Port Campbell National Park for travellers heading West along the Great Ocean Road. The name Gibson Steps refers to the staircase leading down to the stretch of beach shown to the right.
Access to the beach is via 86 steps. The steps were most likely first carved into the cliff by the original Kirrae Whurrong inhabitants and later maintained by a local settler, Hugh Gibson.
