See Hamburger Charlie, Seymour, Wisconsin

Hamburger Charlie was Charlie Nagreen, who in 1885 at the Seymour, Wisconsin, fair, flattened a meatballs into a patty and put it between two pieces of bread, thus creating the first hamburger to be sold at a fair. Seymour is known as the "Home of the Hamburger" to commemorate this event and hosts an annual Burger Fest to celebrate its history.
