Horseshoe Bend is the name for a horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The bend is locally known as "King Bend."
The bend is a ccessible via a hike from U.S. Route 89, it can be viewed from the steep cliff above. The overlook is about 1,000 feet (300 m) above the river. The 1.5 miles (2.4 km) roundtrip takes about 45 minutes. The trail is up and down a sandy hill and across a gentle sandstone incline.
Once at the top of the hill a view of the rest of the trail to Horseshoe Bend, and beyond that are the Paria Plateau and Vermillion Cliffs wil be visable. To the right the river leads up to Lake Powell in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. To the left stretches the vast Navajo Nation.
It is located 5 miles (8.0 km) downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell, about 4 miles (6.4 km) southwest of Page. The trail only goes to the top of the canyon with no way down to the river.
Brings the widest lens you have in order to get a good photo of the bend.
