House of Jan Tyranowski, Krakow, Poland
View Original Description
Jan Tyranowski held clandestine gatherings in his house teaching young Catholics about the journey of the interior life. A future pope was among those whom Tyranowski instructed in the mystical writings of St. John of the Cross, a gift that would influence the rest of Karol Wojtyla’s life, including his papacy. John Paul II reminisced: "with Jan assisting, I was introduced into a new world, whose existence I had never been aware of before."
The remains of Jan Tyranowski are buried in the Church of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Kraków's district of DÄ™bniki.
