Humpback Whales off Dominican Republic

The Navidad Bank and Silver Bank area two area in the Atlantic Ocean north of the Dominican Republic and southeast of the Territory of Turks & Caicos where North Atlantic Humpback Whales have long used the banks as a breeding and calving ground. Along with Humpback Whales the banks have a wealth of corals and is a safe haven for other marine mammals.
The breeding and calving grounds in the area include the waters of the Dominican Republic (primarily Silver Bank, Navidad Bank and Samana Bay), Mona Passage (Puerto Rico), Virgin Bank and Anguilla Bank.
Navidad Bank, Silver Bank, as well as Mouchoir Bank further northwest, are geographically considered a continuation of the Bahamas.
