Karoonda Silo Art, Karoonda, South Australia
View Original Description
Silo Art by Heesco Khosnaran with wedge tail eagle, sheep dog, ram and sheep, railway station all representative of the district. Detail. of sheep dog and ram. The artist used two 180 high boom lift over six weeks to complete the silo art. He chose to highlight Karoonda’s farming history and economic base with a local merino named Diamond, a local kelpie named Whisky, local birds and one of the steam engines that used to service the railway station which was a major rail junction. The silo art was finished in July 2019. The style, colours and images that the artist used are similar to the ones he did on the silos at Grenfell in NSW and equally colourful as the silos he did at Weethalle in NSW. Not all of the 14 Viterra silos in Karoonda were used but this long façade is all used for the daily evening illumination show. Commonwealth government drought funding and local funding was used to finance the project. Street artist Heesco Khosnaran was employed for the silo art. He moved to Australia over 20 years ago from Mongolia for further study. As a first for the Australian silo art trail the silo art was combined with evening illuminations. This co project was undertaken by Cindi Drennan a multimedia community artist who founded Illuminart in South Australia in 2007. Cindi has produced and managed architectural digital art projections in Perth, at Sydney Opera House, in Melbourne and Singapore and at Port Adelaide.
