See La Punta De Los Muertos (Dead Man's Point) Historical Marker, San Diego, California

In April 1769 two ships anchor in San Diego Bay and established a camp within the vicinity of this marker. A large amount of the crew were also gravely ill. There were at least 4 men who died at sea, and quite a few more died over the weeks at the rate of 2 to 3 a day. This would make this site one of the oldest European burials in San Diego.
