Les Arènes de Picasso, Paris, France
View Original Description
Les Arènes de Picasso stands in Noisy-le-Grand, just east of Paris. At first glance, it looks almost unreal — like a giant stone wheel or a sci-fi fortress dropped into the city. The complex was designed in the late 1970s by Spanish architect Manuel Núñez Yanowsky and completed in the early 1980s. Its nickname comes from the strong visual references to the work of Pablo Picasso, especially his bold shapes and playful geometry. The architect wanted buildings that felt artistic, not boring or purely functional.
