Lingua is one of two art pieces are located in the registration area of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center is titled ”Lingua” by Jim Sanborn. Lingua in Latin means “spoken word.” The two columns represent in eight languages words and phrases recalling historic gathering or conventions of people from 1400BC until the 19th century. Sanborn also created similar works that sit in the courtyard of the CIA headquarters with a code that has yet to be fully broken by the agents there, Sanborn is also an archeologist and this is reflected. His artwork always contain some element of archeology, the physical sciences, mythology and the unseen forces of nature.
