See Merrickville Blockhouse & Locks, Ontario, Canada

Merrickville Blockhouse is one of four blockhouses were built from 1826 to 1832 to provide protection for the canal was under the control of the British Forces. Merrickville Blockhouse was used briefly during 1837 Rebellion, it became a residence for the lockmaster, upper floor removed in 1909 and restored in 1960 as a museum. The Rideau Canal locks at Merrickville with three locks have a total lift of twenty five feet. On the south side of the locks there is the old blockhouse, which has been restored by Parks Canada as a tourist site and museum operated by the Merrickville and District Historical Society.
