MV Logos (Umanak), Beagle Channel, Chile
View Original Description
The Logos (previosuly Umanak) wrecked in 1998 in the Beagle Channel because there was a dispute as to the nationality of the pilot who would help in navigating the waters. Before sinking the ship visited 258 ports in 103 countries. They encouraged local mission workers by providing literature and also opened the ship as a bookstore to nationals. So, the main cargo was religious literature including Bibles.
The wreckage of the Logos was turned over by OM to the Chilean Navy, which used it as a target for practice firing for a time. The wreck can still be partially seen today, and the lettering EBE on the chimney is clearly visible. OM replaced the ship with the Logos II in late 1988.
