Newboro Blockhouse is one of four blockhouses were built from 1826 to 1832 to provide protection for the canal was under the control of the British Forces. Newboro Blockhouse was built by the British Ordnance Department, it was also used briefly for its intended military role in the 1830s and then converted to home for lockmaster; restored in 1960s to original blockhouse configuration.
