See Old Buchel County Jail, Marathon, Texas
Marathon, Texas is a small community located in northeastern Brewster County in scenic far West Texas. From 1887 to 1897 it functioned as the county seat of the now defunct Buchel County. That County, along with Foley County, was absorbed into Brewster County, the largest county in Texas, when a sizable population was not achieved.
This lonely structure was the Buchel County Jail back when Marathon Texas was the county seat between 1887 and 1897. There’s no Buchel County in the Lone Star State! Both Buchel and Foley Counties were absorbed into Brewster County.
