See Old First Christian Church Wall, Church Street, Asheville, North Carolina

This wall is the last remnant of the former Asheville First Christian Church, which was built in the Gothic Revival style in the mid-19th Century, and went bankrupt in 1885. Following the bankruptcy of the church, the building and property were purchased by a laundry, and in 1900, the operation was purchased by Swannanoa Cleaners, which operated at the site until 2007. After Swannanoa Cleaners closed, the building was subsequently demolished. At the time of demolition, the only remaining parts of the former church that were still recognizable were the original cross-gable roof and wooden beadboard ceiling, which were preserved above the laundry, the rough-hewn stone foundation, which was surrounded by newer construction, and this wall, which is embedded into an adjacent circa 1895 building, with the original window openings still visible. Today, the wall is the only remaining remnant of the old First Christian Church, and stands adjacent to a vacant lot.
