Phare de l'île Noire (Black Island lighthouse), Brittany, France
View Original Description
The Black Island lighthouse is located in Morlaix Bay. This lighthouse is located on an isolated rocky islet almost entirely submerged at high tide, near the Château du Taureau. It is a square tower whitewashed towards the sea with a red lantern, made of cut stone from the Île Longue and rubble from the Île Stérec.
The Black Island lighthouse is in operation, like all the lights at sea in France, but it is no longer guarded or inhabited. Its optical characteristics are "Oc (2) WRG 6s, 14 m" (according to L'Almanach du marin breton , 2008 edition). It is a landmark known to sailors as it gives, with the Lande lighthouse, the alignment of the entrance to Morlaix via the Tréguier channel.
