These ships form a massive floating breakwater on the Malaspina Strait in the city of Powell River in British Columbia, Canada. The ships include:
USS Quartz (IX-150)
SS Peralta
YOGN-82
C1-S-D1 C1-S-D1 were made by McCloskey & Company in Hookers Point, Tampa, Florida in 1944. McCloskey built 24 C1-S-D1. Many were sunk after the as war as breakwater barriers. The ones st Poweel River are:
SS John Smeaton
SS M. H. Le Chatelier
SS L. J. Vicat
SS P. M. Anderson
SS Thaddeus Merriman
SS Emile N. Vidal
SS Armand Considere
The ships were sold in 1947 to the Powell River Company, where 10 ships were permanently anchored with nine other hulls to form a breakwater protecting the Catalyst Paper mill log pond in Powell River, British Columbia.
