This rock musical takes place in New York City’s East Village during the 1990’s and tells the story of poor young artists living in the city trying to survive. When Rent debuted in 1996 it struck a chord with younger audiences since it touched on many of the issues of the day including addiction, AIDS, poverty, and how people just want to be loved. These friends face it all in the musical.
