Visit Anjar, Lebanon (UNESCO site)

Anjar, also known as Haoush Mousa, is a town of Lebanon located in the Bekaa Valley. Formerly known asGerrha, a stronghold built by Umayyad Caliph Al-Walid ibn Abdel Malek in the 8th century and later abandoned, leaving a number of well-preserved ruins. It was once a commercial center on the caravan route as well as summer and hunting resort for the Umayyad dynasty. The walls of Caliph’s palace are still largely intact and you can see the remains of the forty towers of the palace.
