See Seals & Penguins at Sandfly Bay (Otago Peninsula), New Zealand

Sandfly Bay is a bay with large dunes on the Otago Peninsula, 15 km east of central Dunedin. Walk to Sandfly Bay via Sandfly Bay Track and combine coastal views with wildlife viewing. The beach is a popular site for the Hooker's Sea Lion and Yellow Eyed Penguins. A path crosses farmland to the top of the sand dunes. Go down the sand hill – which can be rather testing on the return, uphill journey – and walk about 1 km along the beach. Turn off Highcliff Road onto Seal Point Road. The track begins at the Sandfly Bay carpark at the end of this road.
