Silver King Mine Aerial Tramway, Park City, Utah
View Original Description
Park City (aka "Sin City" by the surrounding folk) was founded as a silver-mining town in 1869. By 1900, it had 100 saloons. It had the second largest silver strike in the U.S., with 1200 miles of mining tunnels under the city, and some go 1/2 mile deep.
The 1901 Silver King aerial tramway uses buckets to bring ore down to town, lowering transportation cost to 22 cents a ton from $1.50 per ton when hauled by horse and wagon.
