SS Piratiny Shipwreck, South Africa
View Original Description
The SS Piratiny, built in 1921, is a 5000 ton Brazilian Steamship driven against the rocks by the forceful winds on May 12th, 1943. It was headed for Cape Town with a cargo of shoes, clothing, rolls of material and tinned sardines, when its engine spluttered and failed. All that remains of the SS Piratiny is a rusted shell and fragments of old leather shoes in amongst the mussel shells and plants only a few metres from the wreck. It's located 58km SSE of Kleinsee along the Diamond Coast Shipwreck 4x4 Trail.
