Stapafell is a 526 m high mountainous that runs south from the slopes of Snæfellsjökull, about 3 km north of Hellnar and above Arnarstapi.
A road runs up the mountain to the east north through Kýrskarð and Jökulháls to Ólafsvík.
Northeast of Stapafell is Botnsfjall which has a Rauðfeldargjá and you can walk along the gorge to the bottom.
At the top of Stapafell is the rock Fellskross, an ancient sacred symbol but the fell is believed to be a dwelling of the demons.
