Hike
Stout Grove Trail, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, California
View Original Description
Stout Grove in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, California is one of the premier old growth redwood groves on the planet. The park is one of three state parks cooperatively managed as Redwood National and State Parks.
Because the Smith River and adjacent Mill Creek flood regularly, the understory foliage is swept away leaving clear views of the trees, so it's a popular location for photographers.
Some of the trees are 340' tall, with a 20' diameter, and maybe 65' circumference...there are bigger trees nearby in the Grove of Titans.
