See The Braves, Omaha Beach, Normandy, France
The sculpture by Anilore Banon, "The Braves". He created this to honour the courage of these men: sons, husbands and fathers, who endangered and often sacrificed their lives in the hope of freeing the French people.
This is where the American landed but they were only a part of the invasion forces along the whole Normandy coast.
