See The Dolphin Stone, Jamestown, Saint Helena Island

1643 post stone (where letters and messages would be left) at Jamestown, St Helena. Originally letters were left at the Chapel (while it existed) or under large stones, one of which can still be seen at the entrance of The Castle - the ‘Dolphin Stone’ was inscribed by the crew of The East India Company ship Dolphin, which arrived on 21st March 1645 and departed in May.
