Gum Wall, Seattle, Washington
View Original Description
A local landmark, the Market Theater Gum Wall is a brick wall covered in used chewing gum, in an alleyway in downtown Seattle. The tradition began in the early 1990's when local patrons waiting for an improv show at Post Alley's Market Theater stuck their gum on the wall. Over the years, the wall has grown throughout the alley, resulting in a popular photo spot.
In 2015, the Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority cleaned the wall completely for the first time in 20 years. There were concerns about the decaying of the brick behind the gum. Today, the wall is continuing to regrow its vast collection of chewed gum by locals and tourists alike.
