See Toscanini Old Mining Site, Skeleton Coast, Namibia
In 1960, Dr Peter le Riche erected the diamond mining plant at Toscanini for Desert Diamonds (Pty) Ltd. Since then, diamonds have been mined from Toscanini, but it seems mining activities are now having negative impacts on the habitat and bird colonies, and in 2008 two of its American investment brokers were arrested for an alleged pyramid scheme. Diamonds here are of good quality, but rarely exceed 1 carat.
