Named after the Roman god, Vulcan, Vulcan's Anvil is considered a sacred part of the Grand Canyon National Park. Vulcan's Anvil is a basalt feature encountered just before entering Lava Falls rapid on the Colorado River in Grand Canyon National Park.
This volcanic neck that juts out of the river 60 feet and reminds river runners they will soon be at the head of Lava Falls.
Located at Colorado River mile 178.
