Waikanaloa Wet Cave, Kauai, Hawaii
View Original Description
Waikanaloa Wet Cave is located on Kauai’s North Shore off the the main road in the Haena State Park. The water comes from an underground spring that eventually feeds into the ocean and the level in the cave is effected by the tides.
The water in these wet caves is fed by springs seeping through the porous lava and is extremely cold.
To get to the cave, park in the lot of the ocean side of the highway just before the end of the road at Ke’e (about 2/10 of a mile past Limahuli Garden). Look for a trail on the other side of the road that leads up to the cave.
Warning: there is a notice saying no swimming due to the possibility of exposure to leptospirosis bacteria since the cave is fresh water. Wear good shoe on the hike since it can be slippery.
