Hike to
Wapta Falls, Yoho National Park, Canada
View Original Description
Wapta Falls is a waterfall located in Yoho National Park in British Columbia, Canada. It is the largest waterfall of the Kicking Horse River, at about 30 metres (98 ft) high and 150 metres (490 ft) wide.
To reach the falls take a 2 km gravel road to a parking area with restrooms. The first part of the 2.4 km trail is fairly level and easy to the top of the falls. From there it's a pretty steep drop to the bottoms of the falls but if you are able it is worth the hike.
Its average flow can reach 254 cubic metres per second (9,000 cu ft/s). The name stems from a Nakoda Indian word meaning "river".
NOTE: There is no sign of Wapata falls if you are coming from Banff or Lake Louise.
