See Western Wall (Wailing Wall), Jerusalem

Known to many as the Wailing Wall, the Western Wall is the holiest of Jewish sites. Before 1967 there wasn’t a lot of room available for visitors going to see the Wall, however, after the Six Day War the surrounding area was expanded and the Wall now stands in Western Wall Plaza. Although, the Western Wall Plaza can accommodate many more visitors it can still get quite crowded. In keeping with the Jewish Orthodox tradition men and women have separate areas for saying prayers, but people of all religions are welcome. Many visitors stick pieces of paper with personal prayers written on them into the wall. If you’re fortunate you may even see a young person (age 13) getting a Bar (for boys) or Bat (for girls) Mitzvah, a sacred right of passage in the Jewish religion.
