See Wildflowers at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in Southern California is an attractive wildflower-viewing destination with brilliant red flowering ocotillo, fields of yellow and white annuals and vast landscapes. The quality and extent of flower displays are unpredictable due to a variety of environmental factors. The wildflowers do not come out much in lower-than-average rainfall years, but there are usually still flowers on the trees, shrubs, and cacti. There is typically a "rolling bloom"; different areas, different species, different elevations, as things come into bloom. It's important to know that the best flower viewing is in the morning. Sometimes you have to get out and hike a bit since the flowers are not visible directly from any of the park’s roads. April is typically the best time of the year for the wildflowers (March and May can also be good). Find out what's blooming and where throughout the desert, by going to Desert Wildflower Reports and/or The Theodore Payne Wildflower hotline. The park is open dawn to dusk daily.
