Visit 9/11 Memorial Museum & Memorial, Manhattan, NYC

This National Memorial dedicated to remember and honor the nearly 3,000 men, women and children killed in the terror attacks of September 11, 2011 at New York’s World Trade Center, Shanksville, Pennsylvania and the Pentagon was dedicated on September 11, 2011 within the footprint of where the iconic “Twin Towers” office buildings once stood. Since the dedication and opening to the public of the Memorial the site has become a must-see landmark for visitors to New York City. The Memorial consists of twin reflecting pools, each nearly an acre in size, along with the largest man-made waterfall in the United States. The names of every person who died in the 2001 attacks as well as the 6 killed in a previous attack in 1993, are inscribed into bronze parapets that edge the Memorial pools as a stark reminder of the largest loss of life from a foreign attack on American soil and the greatest single loss of rescue personnel in the history of the United States. The names are cut into the bronze in such a way as to allow visitors to make paper impressions (rubbings) of the individual names should they so choose. At night, the names are illuminated by light shining through the voids created by each letter. Visitors are also allowed to place tribute items within certain specifications at the Memorial. A Museum is scheduled to open in September, 2012 as the United States’ principal site dedicated to exploring and documenting the events and impact of the fateful day and those leading up to the senseless destruction. Admission to the Memorial is free but advance reservations are necessary and obtainable through a number of different methods. Your dream trip to New York City would not be complete without insuring a visit to the 9/11 Memorial at the place referred to as “Ground Zero”. This American National nightmare is memorialized in an unforgettable manner and taking time from your otherwise exciting visit to the “City that Never Sleeps” will most definitely be rewarding.
