View Original Description
Check out one of the more unusual roofs in NYC. Get a view of the sculptured steel replica of a World War I Sopwith Camel fighter plane on the roof of 77 Water Street in the Financial District. It sits on an Astroturf runway adorned with landing lights and a wind sock. According to Robert Kaufman, president of the New York real estate developer the William Kaufman Organization, the plane was conceived as a way give the folks in nearby condos and offices something interesting to look at.
